This week, our Senior Section pupils dazzled audiences with a truly spectacular production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Long awaited and much anticipated, the show more than lived up to expectations, treating audiences to an unforgettable evening of drama, music, comedy and dance. From the opening scenes to the final bows, the production was a triumph and a wonderful celebration of the talent, dedication and creativity within our school community.
Bringing such a beloved musical to life is no small feat, particularly with our largest cast to date. However, our pupils rose to the challenge with remarkable confidence and flair. The production showcased not only accomplished performances from the cast but also the tireless work of the production team, musicians and staff behind the scenes, whose efforts combined to create a polished and professional performance filled with energy, heart and theatrical magic.
Audience members were charmed throughout by the expertly delivered comic timing and the warmth of the on-stage interactions. Jack G had the audience in stitches with his larger-than-life portrayal of Gaston, capturing the character’s swagger and vanity perfectly. Alongside him, Finn M gave a wonderfully entertaining performance as LeFou, and together the pair formed a hilarious comic duo whose scenes were among the highlights of the evening.
There were many memorable performances across the cast. Gwen M-O brought both wit and warmth to the role of Cogsworth, while Elis C lit up the stage as Lumière with charisma, energy and impeccable stage presence. Their comic partnership was a joy to watch and added great sparkle to the production. Other much-loved characters were also brought vividly to life, with delightful performances from Babette (Mia A), Maurice (Adam S), Mrs Potts (Tanya N), Chip (Siena F) and Madame de la Grande Bouche (Maddie H), each contributing in their own unique way to the charm and richness of this enchanting story.
The villagers and ensemble cast played a vital role in creating the vibrant world of the show, filling the stage with energy, character and enthusiasm in every scene. Their commitment and teamwork were evident throughout, and the ensemble numbers were a particular strength of the production. In particular, Be Our Guest was a standout moment of the evening: a feast for the senses, bursting with glittering costumes, imaginative props, dazzling choreography and infectious joy. It perfectly captured the magic and spectacle of musical theatre, earning a tremendous response from the audience.
At the heart of the production were Belle, performed by Elisabeth J-J and Grace B, and the unforgettable Beast, played by Joseph P. Together, they delivered spellbinding performances that anchored the show with emotional depth and sincerity. Their portrayal of the developing relationship between the two characters was both touching and convincing, drawing the audience into the heart of the story. By the final scenes, there was a real sense of wonder in the theatre, with audiences left utterly enchanted.
This production of Beauty and the Beast was a shining example of what can be achieved through talent, teamwork and dedication. It was a joy to see our Senior Section pupils embrace the challenge of such an iconic musical and deliver a performance of such high quality, confidence and spirit. We are immensely proud of every pupil involved, both on stage and behind the scenes, and congratulate them on a truly magical and memorable production.
