Exceptional A Level Results

Our fantastic Year 13 students are celebrating exceptional A Level results today with 46% of all grades at A*, 78% at A*-A and 93% at A*-B.

The most common grade was A* with almost a third of the cohort achieving 3 or more A*s reflecting the School’s strong academic ethos and commitment to personal achievement.

95% of applications were secured at their first choice university, with 86% at Russell Group universities. Once again, the results are very strong across a wide range of subjects with 12 departments achieving exclusively A*-B.

Five students have secured places at Oxford and Cambridge, achieving at least three or more A*s - Emily H and Sam B will read History and Medicine respectively at Jesus College, Oxford and it will be Cambridge for Chris F - Linguistics at Jesus College, Emily H - Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at Girton College with a choral scholarship and Rhydian S - Natural Sciences at Emmanuel College.  These outcomes reflect an impressive 42% conversion rate from interview to offer for the School’s Oxbridge applicants.

On receiving her results, Head of House, Emily H said: “I’m so happy to receive these grades today and feel so grateful for all of the dedication and hard work of our teachers who supported us throughout the Sixth Form. I’m excited to begin a new chapter and will look back fondly on my years at CSL.”

Sam B, who is Welsh Schools Cross Country Champion, added: “I’m really happy and relieved to get my results. I’ve had a fantastic 15 years at the School where I learned to balance sport, music and academics and feel that my running gave me a good way to relax during revision and my exams.”

In addition to Sam, seven other students have secured places to study Medicine including Head of School, Myles C, Deputy Head of School, Timea TT, Interact member Sami A, 1^st team cricketer, Ayush M and Heads of Houses, Joseph P and Katayani R. Katayani will be undertaking a six-month internship with the World Health Organisation as part of her Gap year.

Other top performers who achieved three or more A*s include 1^st team cricketer, Evan C who will study Computer Science at Bath, 1^st team Rugby Captain, Patrick E who will read Economics & Politics at Bristol, Head of House, Megan E who will read Economics & Management at Warwick and 1^st team Cricket Captain, Sam M who will study Economics with Politics at Bath. Head of School and former chorister, Emma N and cellist, Sasha R will read History at Durham and St Andrews respectively. Emma has also been awarded a choral scholarship in the St Salvator’s Chapel Choir. Cardiff Youth Council Vice Chair, Ashika P will read Law at LSE, while it will be Engineering for Edward RS (Mechanical) and Anshul S (Electronic & Information) at Imperial College.

Pianist and percussionist, Aidan B and former BBC Chorister of the Year finalist, Owen H will read Music at Birmingham and Durham respectively, actor, Ollie P has secured a foundation place at Italia Conti and Sylvie M, a member of CSL’s U18 Wales Hockey winning squad has achieved a field hockey scholarship to Bucknell University in the US. George F is one of only 30 students in the UK to be accepted to undertake an Army officer internship programme at the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst.
