Discovery Day
(Year 7 entry 2026 only)
Thursday 5 June 2025
This half of term has seen a wealth of academic success as our Senior pupils have pushed themselves beyond the classroom, taking part in a wide range of national competitions across STEM, humanities and linguistics.
In the sciences, four pupils achieved exceptional results in the British Physics Olympiad, securing three Silver Awards and a Bronze, placing them among the top GCSE-level physicists in the country. Meanwhile, our senior chemists impressed in both the Royal Society of Chemistry Olympiad and the national Top of the Bench final, showcasing subject mastery, creativity and teamwork. Our Sixth Form engineers presented an innovative, real-world solution at the EESW Challenge in collaboration with Dŵr Cymru, while two pupils battled it out in Cardiff University’s Cyber Security Competition, reaching the final against 1,000 competitors.
Design and Technology pupils from Years 7 to 12 also took centre stage. Two teams successfully raced their miniature cars in the F1® in Schools STEM Challenge, and a combined Junior and Senior team triumphed in the FIRST® LEGO® League regional round, winning Best Robot Performance and earning a place in the national finals.
Our strong tradition in public speaking continued with two pupils representing the school in the Oxford Union Debate Competition, gaining invaluable experience in high-level debate in one of the most iconic venues in the country.
This term also saw outstanding performances in both the Advanced and Intermediate Linguistics Olympiads, where pupils demonstrate their linguistic abilities through puzzles and problem-solving challenges.
These competitions offer an invaluable opportunity to stretch minds, apply learning in new contexts and develop the skills that will prepare pupils for life beyond CSL. Congratulations to all pupils who took part.
