Information Afternoon Year 7 entry 2027
Tuesday 10 November 1645-1730
Year 1 pupils enjoyed a wonderful hands-on learning experience during their visits to Earthwise Community Farm in Chew Magna. As part of their exploration of how food reaches our plates, the children harvested fresh produce straight from the fields and discovered the journey from farm to fork.
During the visit, pupils learned about food miles and sustainable growing methods, including how certain plants can be grown together to naturally support wildlife and protect crops. They collected a variety of ingredients, including apples, kale, parsley, squash and mint, before putting their new knowledge into practice by preparing a delicious tabbouleh salad.
The children carefully washed, chopped and mixed the ingredients, adding goat's cheese and a lemon and olive oil dressing. Many pupils tasted new foods and were delighted by the results of their efforts.
To round off the day, the children took part in a fun riddle challenge, matching clues to the animals and insects that help gardeners keep plants healthy. It was a memorable day of discovery, teamwork and outdoor learning, helping bring sustainability and healthy eating to life.
