Innovation and Teamwork in DT

Innovation and Teamwork in DT

The DT department has been a hive of activity this term, with pupils applying their skills to cutting-edge engineering and design projects, combining creativity, technical skill and teamwork to tackle real-world challenges.

F1 in Schools: Racing Towards Success

Year 9 pupils are busy preparing for the F1 in Schools competition, a global challenge that involves designing and manufacturing miniature race cars powered by compressed air. Teams have been using CAD software to perfect aerodynamics, refining their branding and rehearsing their presentations where they will explain their engineering decisions to the judges.

A huge thank you to FJ Dance Company, Pill Pharmacy and Pestle & Mortar for sponsoring our teams. If you would like to be a sponsor, please contact Mrs Felstead at felsteada@cathedral-school.co.uk.

Engineering Solutions for Erosion Control

Year 12 students have been collaborating with the Physics department on an Engineering Education Scheme Wales (EESW) project, creating innovative solutions to reduce erosion around reservoirs while also allowing for the natural movement of water. Requiring a deep understanding of environmental science and sustainable design, they have been hard at work researching sustainable materials, testing prototypes and analysing data to measure their effectiveness. By applying engineering principles to environmental challenges, they are developing problem-solving skills with real-world impact.

We look forward to seeing their final results of both projects.
