Marvellous Mathematicians
06 February 2025
We are thrilled to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our pupils who recently participated in nationwide maths challenges.
Participating in these competitions equips pupils with valuable skills such as logical reasoning, critical thinking and resilience when tackling complex problems - skills that will benefit them far beyond the world of mathematics.
The prestigious Senior UK Mathematics Challenge (UKMT) is designed for pupils aged 16-18, and tests mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and logical thinking through a series of challenging multiple-choice questions. The competition not only encourages participants to think deeply but also allows them to apply their mathematical skills in creative and non-routine ways. Our pupils rose to the challenge and demonstrated exceptional skill, with several earning Gold, Silver, and Bronze certificates. Congratulations to Evan C, Megan E, George F, Vihaan J, Sujay O, Ashika P-S, Onkon R, Anshul S, Aled V O (Bronze), Samuel B, Alex H, Ayush M, Emma N, Henry T, Jason W, Ana J (Silver), and Christopher F, Rhydian S, Joe R and Philip T (Gold). Your hard work and dedication to developing your mathematical confidence and fluency is exemplary. A special congratulations to Joe R, Philip T and Christopher F who performed so well that they qualified for the next stage of the competition – the Kangaroo round, requiring even greater problem-solving ability and perseverance.
We are also proud to announce that four pupils took on the ultimate test by completing the UK Mathematics Olympiad paper. This elite-level challenge demands an exceptional understanding of mathematical concepts, ingenuity, and perseverance. Their excellent achievement highlights the depth of mathematical talent within our school. Congratulations to Bence S, Adhit S and Rhydian S who all achieved a certificate of Merit.
