Hiraeth - a longing for home - set the tone for this year’s Senior Eisteddfod, a fiercely contested event with just one point separating all three Houses.
The morning opened with a powerful video reading of Hiraeth by Andrew Challis, before pupils impressed with their original poetry on Welsh Legends, Re-imagined. Congratulations to finalists Elsie M, Evie A and Agnes C, as well as Will F who was crowned this year’s Bard for his poem The Dragon Tower, which will be performed again on Speech Day.
A new format for House drama saw Year 7 pupils take centre stage with six short, pupil-scripted comedy sketches. Dyfrig’s now-infamous T-Rex-themed performance stole the show, followed by Teilo’s sharp humour and visual comedy, and Euddogwy’s clever sketch on laverbread.
A crowd-favourite GeoGuessr challenge had the DS buzzing, with Teilo demonstrating the best knowledge of Welsh geography to take the lead. The final competition, the CSL Welsh Hall of Fame, saw Aaruni B’s outstanding presentation on Ruth Jones secure victory, adding her name alongside last year’s inductee, Gary Speed.
With the Bard crowned and the Welsh national anthem sung with pride, the Eisteddfod came to a close. Congratulations to Teilo for their first House win of the academic year, with Euddogwy in second and Dyfrig in third.
