Sporting Success Stories
09 April 2025
It has been an outstanding term for CSL Sport, with pupils excelling in both competition and development opportunities:
- The Rosslyn Park National School 7s once again provided an exciting stage for our rugby teams, competing among 15,000 players from over 800 schools. For four of our 1st VII team - Jac B, Dafydd H, Isaac Jand Rhydian B (captain) - it marked their final time in CSL kit after years of superb performances. The U13s made a strong debut, losing only one of their five group games, with four players scouted for the Ultimate Rugby 7s Academy. Meanwhile, our U16s finished joint top of their group, narrowly missing out on progression due to points difference, but earning praise for their athleticism and style of play.
- We were delighted to hear that our U14 hockey team became National Champions at the Hockey Wales U14 Schoolgirls National Final. They were victorious over Haberdashers’ Monmouth, Cardiff High School and Ysgol Botwnnog. An incredible achievement.
- More recently, our Year 10 rugby team won the Cardiff Schools Rugby Cup U15 Plate at Cardiff Arms Park and the U15 girls’ cricket team triumphed at the South Wales Indoor Cricket Final at Sophia Gardens, securing their place in the South West Finals Day – just one stage away from competing at Lord’s.
- Beyond competition, our second CSL Sport Extra Time seminar welcomed Dr Liam Corr, lecturer at Cardiff Metropolitan University, who led a session on nutrition, recovery and sleep strategies.
Several pupils have also excelled in a national capacity:
- Carys H claimed two Welsh titles at the Welsh National Track Championships, just 0.6 seconds off securing a third.
- Siblings Sam and Bryony B have been selected for the Welsh Athletics squad competing in the London Mini Marathon on 26th April.
- Alys W represented Welsh Schools FA against England and looks ahead to further international fixtures.
- Bryony B and Olivia M competed for Welsh Athletics in Falkirk, with Bryony finishing 24th in the U15 race and Olivia helping the 1500m team secure bronze.
- Megan J made history as she was selected for the first-ever Glamorgan Cricket Women’s Squad, setting up an exciting summer ahead.
