Taith Adfent

Taith Adfent
Pupils across Primary have been taking part in our Taith Adfent journey - an important programme designed to help children understand how we can offer a Warm Welsh Welcome to refugees and asylum seekers in our community.

Our youngest learners began by watching Home, a short animation about the experiences of children who migrate to a new country, and talked about the things that help someone feel safe and welcome. They read stories, discussed friendship, and created artwork showing what they would share with someone new to help them feel at home. Finally, they created videos to communicate welcome in different languages and celebrated what makes each of us unique and special - watch the Nursery video below:

In the Juniors, pupils have been researching the work of Oasis Cardiff and learning how the charity supports refugees and asylum seekers when they first arrive in Wales, creating websites to showcase its vital work. Pupils also designed posters to promote this term’s community food drive, with winning entries to be displayed around the school.

We were fortunate to also welcome Norman Gettings from Oasis Cardiff, who spoke to Junior pupils about the charity’s day‑to‑day work and the people they support. His visit helped pupils make powerful, real‑life connections to the learning taking place in classrooms.

Our Schools of Sanctuary committee also led an assembly, sharing their vision for a school where everyone feels safe, valued, and included. Meanwhile, Mrs Poole introduced Taith Adfent to the Infants, helping them understand in a gentle and meaningful way how even small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

Whole‑School Food Drive
All of this work leads up to our upcoming Oasis Cardiff Food Drive, taking place during the week beginning 16th March. As a school community, we will be collecting non‑perishable food items to help Oasis provide meals for up to 150 people per day. More details will be shared closer to the date.
