On Wednesday four Year 8 pupils competed against 14 other schools at the Salters' Festival of Chemistry at Cardiff University.
The Cathedral School team members - Arthur W, Lewis D, Angharad S and Lily S were chosen due to their excellent practical skills, coupled with their enthusiasm for Chemistry.
Becoming detectives in the morning, the pupils worked in one of the university chemistry laboratories, where they carried out flame tests and precipitation reactions on five suspect's samples to solve the crime ‘who committed the murder.'
The afternoon was taken up with the University Challenge where they had to create a rainbow of colours using indicators, acids and alkalis.
The team was placed third out of 15 which is a fantastic achievement! Well done!
