Discovery Day
(Year 7 entry 2026 only)
Thursday 5 June 2025
Pupils in Years 3 and 4 have recently enjoyed two exciting experiences that brought creativity and adventure to their learning.
To develop their understanding of mountains, Year 3 welcomed one of our parents, Mr Kirtley, to school. He shared stories of his incredible expedition to Nepal, where he helped to set a world record by playing the highest altitude official sports match – a cricket game played at over 5,000 metres above sea level. Pupils were fascinated to hear about the training, preparation and challenges of this extraordinary feat and left feeling both inspired and informed.
Class 4OP had the fantastic opportunity to visit Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre, where they explored the technique of batik. After sketching their water-themed designs, pupils transferred them onto fabric and used hot wax and vibrant dyes to create striking, flowing patterns. It was a rewarding and hands-on introduction to a traditional art form, and the class can’t wait to see their finished pieces returned to school. Class 4C will enjoy the same opportunity later this month.
Whether developing artistic skills or exploring mountain ranges, both experiences offered valuable opportunities to learn in engaging and memorable ways.
