Visiting the world-heritage sites of ancient Pompeii and Herculaneum, they also climbed Mount Vesuvius, the cause of these sites’ preservation from the 1st century A.D.; and also examined their fantastic archaeological treasures housed in the Archaeological Museum in Naples. Taking in other sites of historical significance and interest such as the ruins of the temple of Apollo at ancient Cumae, the Flavian amphitheatre at Pozzuoli and the sulphurous dormant volcano at Solfatara, these intrepid Cathedral School explorers made the most of their short time in Italy, taking the time also to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Amalfi coast at Sorrento.
