Our Rock and Pop Concert on Friday night was a concert unlike any other: there were a total of ten bands ranging from Year 7 to Year 13 who provided over two hours of hugely varied entertainment to a packed Drama Studio. There was something here for everyone from Def Leppard through The White Stripes to Kelly Clarkson.
It is not possible here to summarise all the acts, and there was too much talent on show for me to do everything justice. There were some particular highlights, though, that it would be invidious not to mention. These include:
• Myles Mc, Oliver P, Oliver M and Owen T’s opening set, which got the evening off to a masterly and professional start
• Anna R, Nathan C and Aiden B with their astounding version of Metallica’s Orion and Master of Puppets which brought the first half to an exhilarating end
• The bravado of the Year 9a band (Harry D, George H, George P, Owain J, Gethin H and Billy R with their confident performances of Wheatus and Tom Petty
• The Year 9 band not taught by Mr Wheel who worked everything out for themselves
• The final role of the dice from the Year 13 band: Anna R, Jake W, Neal B and Ashley R. They went out with a bang, and will be sorely missed.
Although it was sadly a last concert for some great performers, it was also great to see so many new young faces. We look forward to a bright future of Rock and Pop, and to another inter-house Battle of the Bands next year. For more photos, click here.
