Discovery Day (Year 7 entry 2027 only)
Thursday 4 June 2026
Some of our pupils have had the opportunity to step beyond the classroom and immerse themselves in the past, bringing their learning vividly to life.
Year 2 enjoyed a spectacular start to the term with a visit to Cardiff Castle as part of their topic launch. Despite the wet weather, spirits were high as pupils explored the castle on a guided tour, discovering what daily life would have been like for those who lived there centuries ago. The experience was brought vividly to life during a Meet the Knight workshop, where Sir Jay shared stories of a knight’s life and demonstrated the armour they would have worn. Pupils eagerly tried on pieces of armour and held a sword, quickly realising just how heavy it all was.
Meanwhile, Year 8 travelled even further back in time with a visit to the Roman Baths. As part of their study of Roman Britain, pupils explored the remains of the bath houses and the surrounding temple complex, gaining a deeper understanding of the Roman world and its influence on Celtic Britain. Encounters with historical re-enactors added to the sense of immersion, while a hands-on workshop helped pupils develop their understanding of Latin and Roman culture in a more tangible way.
These experiences provided pupils with valuable opportunities to connect with history first-hand, enriching their understanding and demonstrating the power of learning beyond the classroom.
