Languages TEDTalks

Languages TEDTalks

A series of TED-style extension lectures for Languages, hosted in the DS, offered pupils an engaging and thought-provoking academic experience.

Guest speakers from Oxford and Cardiff universities, alongside Old Llandavians, delivered talks across French, Spanish, German and Latin, exploring a range of cultural and linguistic ideas. Topics included whether language is inherently political through the study of Kiezdeutsch, the enduring impact of Virgil’s Aeneid, and the blurred boundaries between fantasy and reality in Argentinian surrealism. Pupils were also captivated by a lecture linking Seurat’s Un dimanche après-midi à l'Île de la Grande Jatte with Zola’s Thérèse Raquin, exploring themes of monotony, automata and human behaviour. It was inspiring to see so many pupils fully engaged, enjoying the opportunity to explore ideas beyond the curriculum.
