DIRECT is a group in school that promotes inclusivity and diversity and was established by former Heads of School, Saiba and Walter, in 2019. It aims to make all students in the School feel included, regardless of race, sexuality, or gender identity. Last year, we raised money for charities, such as Shelter, through second hand clothes sales. We also raised awareness of topics such as International Women’s Day, Pride Month and Anti-Bullying Week.
Our vision for DIRECT this year is to push forward the importance of inclusion for all different cultures and the LGBTQ+ community. Since DIRECT was formed, both these topics have been at the forefront of discussions and we would like to consider them equally in the coming year as we know different people will relate to our wish to acknowledge diversity in different ways. Our school community is fortunate enough to be enriched by many people of different cultures and identities. It is our belief that we should continue to educate the School to have an accommodating society for everyone, a society that embraces diversity and discourages intolerance. Other causes we would like to raise awareness of within the School are gender inequality, especially within the working world and continuing to reduc the stigma of mental health.
