The Welsh hills are alive…with the sound of the girl choristers

Walkers on Pen-y-Fan were treated to an impromptu performance from the Girl Choristers last Saturday, as they undertook a sponsored hike to raise money for their tour of Hungary this summer.

Swapping their hymn books and robes for walking gear and back packs, the sun shone as ten of the girl choristers made their way to the summit, where they performed one of the highest concerts that day in Wales!

Renditions of You Raise Me Up and The Climb could be heard echoing throughout the Welsh hills and the girls managed to raise more than £1000.

Bethany H, one of the two Head Choristers said: "It was amazing to be singing at the top of the mountain! We knew it would be a lot of fun - but the view was fantastic and the girls really sang well. Lots of people told us we had made their morning! We can't wait to go to Hungary together in July."

The girls received an invitation to be a Choir in Residence at the International Kodaly Seminar in Hungary in July 2011. While they are there they will sing concerts in the birth town of the famous Hungarian composer, Zoltan Kodaly, and in Budapest at the Liszt Academy. They will receive training from some of the greatest conductors in the world and sing and socialise with Hungarian young people's choirs. They will also see some of the legendary Hungarian horsemen, take part in festivals and have a lot of fun.
