In the Junior Section at the Cathedral School, we are very proud of our Physical Education and Games programmes. We make a provision that is inclusive of all experiences and abilities, but challenges the more able to succeed at County and National level.
There is an extensive programme of inter-house fixtures and tournaments throughout the School. We regularly compete against a variety of schools in a number of sports and activities. We also compete in local tournaments, galas and other events at county and national levels. We encourage all children to participate in both lessons and after-school clubs. Commitment to weekly fixtures are expected and, as well as A team fixtures, we are proud to field many B and C teams.
Individual year groups will receive single sex lessons. Boys play rugby, football and cricket, whilst girls play hockey, netball and rounders/cricket. Physical Education activities include gymnastics, cross-country, athletics plus invasion and striking games.
In Years 3 to 6, pupils have 50 minutes a week of Physical Education. All age groups are fortunate to have a dedicated games afternoon, with either training or competitive fixtures, Years 5 and 6 on Wednesday and Years 3 and 4 on Friday afternoons.
