Concerts and Events Michaelmas Term 2018

Our team of music teachers provide a fun presentation of orchestral instruments, boosting musical awareness and offering the chance to try something new.

Music Scholars from Years 7-13 give an afternoon recital in the Roald Dahl Studio. This will be the first opportunity this year to see and hear our superb new Yamaha C6 Grand Piano. Tea & biscuits served in the Jubilee Foyer from 4.45pm.

A relaxed concert of solo items, performed by our younger girls and boys in Years 3-6. Families and friends are warmly encouraged to support their children at this event. Junior pupils of all abilities are encouraged to participate.

Dyfrig, Euddogwy and Teilo Houses compete head-to-head in one of the most impressive and exciting events of the School calendar. A stunning presentation of House Choir unison and a-cappella singing involving over 150 Senior pupils. Not to be missed! Admission by advance ticket only.

The first in our regular series of lunchtime concerts, showcasing talented soloists from Years 7-13. Enjoy the beautiful acoustics and peaceful ambience of Llandaff Cathedral in a concert sure to delight. Retiring collection for Cathedral funds. All welcome.

HALF TERM (Saturday 20 October – Sunday 4 November)

Celebrating the arrival of our magnificent Yamaha C6 Grand Piano, and the completion of our ‘All-Yamaha’ status, we are delighted to present a high-class programme of solo piano music, played on the Yamaha C6 by some of our highest achieving young pianists. Cheese and wine from 6pm.

An opportunity to hear some of our music scholars, soloists and chamber groups – the second in our lunchtime series. Retiring collection for Cathedral funds. All welcome.

Our family of Junior instrumental ensembles show off their hard work this term, led by the music staff. To include: Brassophonic, Camerata, Sinfonietta, Guitar Ensemble, Junior Flute Choir, Junior Percussion Ensemble, Recorderama, and more!

The Cathedral School Brass Ensemble make take a lead role by playing carols in Llandaff Village, as part of the official Christmas lights switch-on celebrations. Christmas hats are obligatory!

Involving over 170 pupils, including our 100-voice Senior Chamber Choir, our annual gala concert will have a distinct Christmas flavour this year, exhibiting flagship instrumental and choral groups in a professional concert hall environment. Featuring Bob Chilcott’s carol sequence, On Christmas Night, accompanied by professional chamber ensemble. Admission by advance ticket only.

Cathedral School pupils may take their music exams in the home environment of our Music Department.

The Girl Choristers give their annual festive concert at this magnificent city-centre church, accompanied by the acclaimed, Father Willis Organ. Free Admission - all welcome.

Pupils from Years 3-6 lead the singing in a heart-warming service of Christmas music featuring, the Girl Scholars and Boy Choristers, together with Junior choirs and congregational school carols, marking the end of term for the Junior Section.

Following the traditional liturgy of Nine-Lessons-and-Carols, this magnificent service bring the term to a joyful conclusion. Featuring the Boy Choristers & Girl Choristers, accompanied by organ and senior brass ensemble.
